I present four different kinds of evidence as to why that's true in my article about betting systems. Centuries of investigation, professional mathematicians, and countless computer simulations all say the same thing: betting systems simply don't work. But if you're undaunted and really want to test your system, read on. Your goal as a dice setter is to toss the dice gently enough to just barely hit the wall.
Most players try to give the dice some backspin. You want the dice to stay together as they fly through the air. Grip might be the most important aspect. You should use a gentle grip while making sure that the dice are kissing each other. They should have absolutely no space between them. Your goal is simply to tilt the odds in your favor by avoiding rolling certain numbers.
This will require a large number of trials to be statistically valid, and you should probably enlist the help of a confederate in order to keep track of the numbers. You should be comfortable taking this money out of your lifestyle budget.
You should also keep in mind that even if you succeed in getting an edge over the casino, there is still an element of chance involved. Card counters deal with the same issue. Once you have the size of your bankroll established, you can decide on the size of your bets. Your goal is to maximize your profits while minimizing your chances of going broke. According to the Kelly Criterion, the best way to do this is to size your bets as a percentage of your bankroll equal to the edge you have over the casino.
The best bets to make are the pass line and come bets with as much odds as the casino will let you take. Betting on the 6 or the 8 are also good choices. Dice control is a technique that tries to turn the game of craps from a game of pure chance into a game of skill like darts. Learning how to set the dice involves experiment with your grip, your delivery, and the alignment.
Having a reasonable sized bankroll and sticking with the best bets on the table will help someone maximize their chances of turning this into a viable casino strategy. One of the reasons for this decline is the seeming complexity of the game, which features a multitude of what seem like bewildering bets. If you stick with the basics, you can have lots of fun, and your money will last a long time.
This page describes those bets along with some of the more exotic and not necessarily recommended other bets. This is one of the most basic bets in the game. You place a pass line bet before the come-out roll, which is the first roll of the dice in a round of play.
If the come-out roll is 7 or 11, the pass line bet wins. This is the opposite of the pass line bet. If any number other than 2, 3, 7, 11, or 12 comes up, a point is set. The come bet basically treats the roll of the dice after a point has been set as if it were another come-out roll.
This the best bet in the game. Taking odds is a bet that can be made any time a point is established. The amount you bet in this case wins if the point is rolled before a 7 is rolled. And unlike every other bet in the casino, the taking odds bet pays out at true odds. There is no house edge. Casinos limit the amount you can wager on taking odds as a multiple of the amount you wagered on the initial pass line or come bet.
The higher the multiple, the better deal this bet becomes. This is the opposite of taking odds, and it pays out when the shooter gets a 7 before rolling a point. The casino has house rules about the max you can bet. Besides the bets already mentioned, the only other good bets at the craps table are place bets. You can make a wager on a place bet on any of the point numbers at any time.
The point numbers are 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and If the number you chose is rolled before a 7, then you win. If a 7 rolls before your number, then you lose. These bets do NOT pay out at true odds. The house edge varies based on which number you make a place bet on. If you make a place bet on 6 or 8, then the casino pays out 7 to 6, giving the house an edge of 1.
If you make a place bet on 4 or 10, then the casino pays out 9 to 5, giving the house an edge of 6. The buy bet is the same as a place bet, only it pays out at true odds instead of at the payouts for a place bet. This makes the house edge on all of those bets the same: 4. A put bet allows a player to bet on the pass line after the come-out roll. The player gets to choose her point. Of course, you can achieve the same effect with a buy or place bet. Many of the bets on a craps table are proposition bets.
Just as the bets listed above offer some of the best odds in the casino, the bets listed below offer some of the worst odds in the casino. Most of the proposition bets are one-roll bets—the outcome of the next roll determines a win or loss. A bet on the field is a bet that the next roll will be one of the following: 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or The house usually pays out even money for 3, 4, 9, 10, or 11, and it usually pays out 2 to 1 for a 2 or Some generous casinos even pay out 3 to 1 for a 2 or The house edge for the usual payout structure is 5.
This is the same thing as a place bet on 6 or a place bet on 8, with one exception. The big 6 and the big 8 bets only pay even money. A place bet on these numbers pays out at 7 to 6. This is what gamblers call a sucker bet. This one change makes the house edge on these two bets 9.
Compared with a 1. A hardway bet is placed on an exact combination of dice, and these combinations are pictured on the betting surface of the craps table. There are four possible hardway bets:. This is a one-roll bet that the next total will be 2, 3, or The bet has a payout of 7 to 1 and a house edge of This is a one-roll bet that the next total will be 7.
Each bet is a one-roll wager that the next total will be 11 or 3. In either case, it pays out at 15 to 1 and has a house edge of These are also two separate bets that are more or less the same. Each bet is a one-roll wager that the next total will be 12 or 2.
Either way, it pays out 30 to 1, and the house edge is This is a one-roll bet on the following four numbers: 2, 3, 11, and If any one of these numbers is rolled, you win. The house edge on this one is The house edge is huge and depends on which of the high numbers you choose. The hop bet is a one-roll bet that the next roll will be a particular combination.
You could also bet on another combination, like Most of these bets pay 15 to 1, but the , , and pay 30 to 1. The house edge on the former is As you can see, the best bets at the craps table are the simplest bets. The more complicated bets are for suckers. This page explains both types of craps odds.
We refer to payout odds as the number that a bet pays off, and true odds as the probability that a given outcome will appear. The difference between the true odds and the payout odds is the house edge, which is the number that explains how the casinos stay so probable.
Probability is that branch of mathematics that deals with the likelihood of something happening or not happening. A simple example of a probability is a coin flip. The probability of the result being heads is 0. The equation for calculating a probability is to divide the number of ways something can happen by the number of total ways it could happen. When rolling dice, you can calculate the odds of rolling a 1 by dividing 1 by 6. There are 6 possible outcomes, but the one you want to know is the chance of rolling a 1.
For example, if you want to calculate the probability of rolling a total of 2 on 2 dice, you would multiply the probabilities of rolling a 1 on the first die by the probability of rolling a 1 on the second die. That would be expressed in odds as 2 to 1. The difference between the true odds and the payout odds is what creates an edge for the casino.
And like any other business, casinos exist to make a profit. For example, if you make a bet on something that has a 3 to 1 chance of happening, and the casino pays out at 2 to 1 on that bet, the casino will make a profit in the long run. You would win once and lose three times. The house edge is usually expressed as a percentage of each bet that you can expect to lose over the long run.
The best bets at the craps table are the ones with the lowest house edge, and luckily, those are also the simplest bets you can make. The house edge on the pass bet and the come bet is 1. When you take odds or lay odds, your bet pays out at true odds. This means the house edge is 0, making this the best bet in the casino. The worst bets at the craps table are the complicated bets. The craps table features countless proposition bets of varying complexity, but here are a few examples of bets with bad odds in craps.
The Big 6 and Big 8 bets offer a house edge of 9. Hardway bets also offer lousy odds. The house edge is either 9. Any time you find a game with bets with a house edge that ranges between 1. The game of craps is unique in a couple of ways. For one thing, the game offers some of the best bets in the casino. For another, it also offers some of the worst bets at the same time. Most casino games either have a high house edge or a low house edge; craps has both.
In all other casino games, the only event that you can bet on is the one that happens. In craps, there are only 12 possible totals, but the probabilities of the various totals vary significantly. This is calculated by multiplying the odds of getting a 1 on the first die with the probability of getting a 1 on the second die. The first is to get a 1 on the first die and a 2 on the second die, and the second is to get a 2 on the first die and a 1 on the second die.
You can get a 1 on the first die and 3 on the second. You could also get a 3 on the first die and a 1on on the second. Or you could get a 2 on both dice. The rest of the totals correspond accordingly. A total of 8 has the same probability as a total of 6. A total of 9 has the same probability as a total of 5. A total of 10 has the same probability as a total of 4. A total of 11 has the same probability as a total of 3, and a total of 12 is exactly as likely as a total of 2.
Expressing a probability as a fraction is just one way to express it. Another way is to express a probability as a decimal. You could also convert that to a percentage, which is very common and quite intuitive.
Finally, you can express probabilities in odds format. Understanding that something will happen once every 36 times is intuitive enough when looked at as a fraction. But 2. Poker players probably prefer to look at that number as odds, which are 35 to 1. There are 35 ways to NOT roll a 2, and only 1 way to roll the 2. Probability matters because of the house edge. Casino games are rigged, as it turns out, but not in the way you think.
The reason casinos are profitable is because they never pay bets out at their true odds of happening. For example, if you place a bet that a 2 is going to come up on the next roll of the dice, the odds of winning are 35 to 1. But this bet pays off at 30 to 1. The house edge on this particular bet is This number might be meaningless, but you can use it to calculate how much entertainment you see for your dollar.
That's the primary reason they're the only online casino I accept advertising from. No registration required. Betting systems can't overcome the house edge. I present four different kinds of evidence as to why that's true in my article about betting systems. The results more closely matched the mathematical expectations.
So what does this show? You may be lucky and win for a period of time. You may even win for a long period of time. You could also be very unlucky and lose very big for a while. Eventually, however the math will catch up with you.
In the long run, you cannot beat the math of the game with random shooters. You will lose the house edge of your bets times the amount bet. Accept the fact and bet the low house edge bets. Your bankroll will thank you. Jerry "Stickman" is an expert in craps, blackjack and video poker and advantage slot machine play. He is a regular contributor to top gaming magazines.

After placing my first 2 bets, the dealer gave me a funny look and asked: "Are you sure that's what you want to do? When I placed the 3rd and 4th bet he said, Oh! The 11 didn't show but all of a sudden he was my friend. I haven't seen him on the boat since. I'll bet he picked up on DC-7 and is playing it some place else on the other side of the table. I didn't tell him when to get in and when to get out. He'll have to get that from you. Port St Luce, FL.
It's the most popular system tester on the market. It consists of 1, shooters, 14, rolls of the dice and 4, decisions. DC-7 produced an average of 8. The writer would like to wish you luck but if you have DC-7, you won't need it. Click here to order and a download link will open immediately after your payment online.
On the flat betting, DC-7 delivered 5. In most cases, the table qualified with the first 3 to 4 shooters. On page 11 it took 15 shooters to re-qualify the table after a stop play rule went into effect. On pages 21 and 26, it took 17 shooters before the table qualified, which is an exception. Once the table is qualified, DC-7 can be profitable on hot, cold or choppy tables, the latter being the most productive.
On page 52, there is a loss of 19 units, but that would never have happened if we followed the stop play temporarily rule. If you want proof, you are looking at it. We don't know of any other Craps system that passed the entire 72 hour test without showing a loss.
Quesion: What is the maximum drawdown of the system? Answer: I never considered a drawdown. That's something you can decide for yourself. I would recommend that if you are up 7 or 8 units, playing the progression which can happen with as little as 3 shooters you may at that point want to switch to flat betting. That would be the only "drawdown" that I could recommend. Drawdowns are popular with systems that drain you after you made a big hit.
If you are up lets say 8 units and lose 3 in a row for a total of 7 leaving you 1 unit ahead playing However if you switch to flat betting and lose 3 in a row, you still have 5 left. Losing 3 in a row doesn't happen that often but it does happen. When it does, follow the stop rule and then resume play after the table re-qualifies itself.
You'll get back your loss in a very short period of time. Remember, you have a 4. You can grind them down just by taking them on like they grind you down with 1. Question: How much is the buy-in and the amount of bankroll needed? No one has ever reported losing a buy-in. You are going to win on hot and cold tables but you are going to clean up on choppy tables.
Good news! Most of the time the table is choppy. Go get'em! And you don't need a "lifetime" bankroll, you just need DC-7 and a little patience and discipline. Question: Is the system risky? How confident can one be with DC-7? Why are you selling DC-7? My only goal is to find something that works on a consistent basis. I am really burnt out on systems that don't work.
If it doesn't work sell it. There are a lot of scams out there by people that live off the sincere but gullible public and I detest all of that. I have my own reasons for selling my strategy that works or I could not live with myself. I'm selling DC-7 for guys like yourself because I've been there too many times and always felt that there has to be a way to beat this game.
DC-7 is a "combination" of several systems that do not stand up to the test of time. I added a few of my own ideas based on experience and came up with DC-7, which stands for "Don't Come-7 out. I want you to feel comfortable with DC-7, which does not require a large buy in because there is no risk in the long run. The results that appear on the site regarding 72 hours are real. They won't allow me to teach anyone anymore I live on the ocean here in Melbourne Beach Florida and check the height of the waves whenever I get the urge to play.
If it's calm and the report is that it will stay that way, I'll go out. I am very prone to sea sickness and have become immune to Dramamine. My wife won't and I don't like to leave her. Once you get into the rhythm and are totally confident that no matter what happens, you are still going to come out a winner, the jitters and the fear of losing will disappear.
If the casinos can wear you down with a 1. The only difference is that the house has that 1. The dealers will pick up on the fact that you have something going for you and will make remarks. I have a stock answer which is not true of course and that is "Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't work. One more thing. If you should by any chance see someone else playing DC-7, go to another table. It's obvious that you have something going for you. Question: Is there a stop loss?
That is part of the strategy that is in the instructions. Question: Is there a stop win? You stop when you get tired of winning. Question: Do you play every shooter after you start? When you hit a stop play, then you must re-qualify the table. If the table gets hot, while you have money at risk and you are still winning, keep playing. Question: What is the average in qualifying a shooter to start playing.? Sometimes as little as two shooters, sometimes as long as 15 depending on the outcome of each roll and that usually occurs where there is only one table, on a boat for instance.
In a casino where there are a lot of tables, we direct you to the one that will get you in the game quickly. Answer: Works on all three but big time on choppy tables. The good news is that the tables are choppy most of the time. Question: How is a session defined? Answer: The "session" I am referring to in DC-7 is the time between the shooters point and him her making the point or 7 outs.
That's 3 sessions. The come out 7 does not count as a session. Some people refer to the sequence as an "event". Answer: The biggest risk in DC-7 is the player making mistakes. No one has ever reported losing a buy in never mind a bankroll. Question: Hard to believe you came up with this system yet you don't gamble? I enjoy the excitement. I have 3 businesses and I am not hurting for money thank God but have no restrictions for making more. A gambler can't see the trees from the forest.
That's why an outsider or someone who looks at the game differently me came up with a solution to other people's problem. Question: Anyone could design a system to beat the book but isn't actual play different? Answer: 72 Hours is a documented scenario of actual play , and has been for years the leading book of testing for the gaming industry. Question: I can't help but think that it shouldn't matter to "qualify" the shooter, because the dice has no memory.
Shouldn't you be able to enter the table immediately without waiting? The casinos depend on that type of player's mistake. That's what produces losers. We produce winners. Question: Do you have to chart at the table with pencil and paper? Answer: If you have a very bad memory, you may want to chart the rolls but once a certain thing happens you stop charting until the next shooter rolls the bones.
You can do it with your fingers. If you have a memory problem like I used to, take Giko Biloba. Poker Guide - The world's largest poker guide PokerListings.
